Mother Changes Plea In Connection With Disabled Daughter’s Death

BELMONT, Ohio —

A Belmont County mother withdrew her not-guilty plea and accepted a charge of felony child endangerment on Tuesday.

Carmen Cargnel, 33 at the time of her arrest last year, pleaded no contest in connection with her disabled daughter’s death.

Her 10-year-old daughter, who had cerebral palsy, died of malnutrition, dehydration and pneumonia in August 2008, according to investigators.

Cargnel will be sentenced Jan. 3.
