New farm-to-table restaurant opens in Wheeling

By NEWS9

WHEELING, W.Va. —

The city of Wheeling has a new neighborhood-style restaurant that hopes to bring a big-city feel to local food.

Avenue Eats, located at the corner of Washington Avenue and Valley View Avenue, opened up Saturday for its second day of business, and the owners said their service has been nonstop.

The eatery focuses on the "farm-to-table" premise that's popular in larger cities. They serve a variety of food from local vendors, including burgers and black bean hummus.

"Every day you're going to receive fresh food, not frozen, boiled in the bag food … things ranging from a fresh ground burger to substituting tempeh for vegetarian sandwiches," said Lara Graves, co-owner of Avenue Eats.

The owners said they plan to eventually add beer from local breweries and wines to their menu.
