New Gypsum Plant Opens Near Moundsville

A new state-of-the art CertainTeed Gypsum plant near Moundsville was dedicated Friday.

West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin was on hand for the official dedication of the plant at 7200 Energy Road in Proctor.

The dedication ceremony was part of a day-long celebration at the plan set to include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and plant tours, officials said.

CertainTeed Gypsum is a subsidiary of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain, the world’s largest gypsum manufacturer.

The 750,000 square-foot plant uses an environmentally sustainable approach in producing its ProRoc line of gypsum board, officials said.

The plant is the result of a partnership between the company, American Electric Power, and the state of West Virginian, officials said.

CertainTeed has been involved in the building products industry for more than 100 years and is North America’s leading brand of exterior and interior building products including roofing, siding, windows, fence, decking, railing, trim, foundations, pipe, insulation, gypsum, ceilings and access covers, according to a company release.

With its headquarters in Valley Forge, Pa., CertainTeed and its related companies have more than 7,000 employees and more than 70 manufacturing facilities throughout the United States and Canada, according to the release.
