No Strike Monday, Tentative Agreement Reached

The United Steelworkers and ArcelorMittal reached a tentative agreement Saturday just days before their current contract was set to expire.

Steel Union President Mark Glyptis of Local 2911 said that union presidents voted during talks in Pittsburgh.

Glyptis said the union leaders will now put a timeline together in which informational meetings will be given to the membership. That's when he said they will explain the details of the contract.

A vote will then be taken by the membership through mail and ballot.

The AP reported Saturday that the agreement provides a lump sum payment of $6,000 following ratification, then a $1 an hour pay raise in the first year.

The Press reported that it then has raises of 4 percent for each of the following three years.
