CHARDON, Ohio --
An official said the teenage suspect in a deadly Ohio school shooting told authorities he stole the gun he used from his uncle.
T.J. Lane, 17, is suspected of opening fire in the cafeteria at Chardon High School on Monday.
Three students were killed as a result of the shooting: 16-year-old Daniel Parmertor, who died Monday; 17-year-old Russell King Jr., was declared brain dead early Tuesday; and Demetrius Hewlin died Tuesday morning.
Another student, Nick Walczak, remains in serious condition in Hillcrest Hospital in suburban Cleveland. A fifth injured Chardon student was released from the hospital and was home with her family.
A law enforcement official familiar with the case says the weapon was bought legally in August 2010 from a gun shop in Mentor, Ohio. The official said the gun was a Ruger .22-caliber Mark III target pistol.
The official spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation.
A prosecutor described Lane as "someone who's not well" and said the teen didn't know the victims but chose them randomly. Officials said Lane attends a nearby school for at-risk children.
