Officials with the Urban Mission in Steubenville said they are in a financial crisis because they've had an increase in people who need help but don't have enough funding to manage those needs.

This month, the mission will no longer give out eggs in grocery bags, which will save the mission about $1,000 to $1,200 a month.

The group will also limit the number of grocery bags it packs and those bags will be given out on a first-come, first-serve basis.

A local businessman offered the mission $5,000, but the mission would have to match the funds. Officials said they are now turning to the public for help to continue supporting the area's needy.

The mission plans to apply for a grant in July to help cover the cost of running its homeless shelter, but the grant would only cover two-thirds of the cost. Because of that officials said they may not be able to run the shelter in the future.

Further, to cut costs, officials said they will not replace an employee who is retiring.
