WHEELING, W.VA. —

Oglebay officials are hoping to open the ski resort later this week, but the recent weather has made it difficult for snow to stick around so far.

Park officials said families and children usually like to come out to learn how to ski. They usually try to have the area open for the holidays, but the temperatures weren't ripe for snow just yet.

In the meantime, officials said anyone can grab a ski pass at the golf club.

"We hope to get the slopes open as soon as we possibly can. The weather has not been cooperating so far," said Caren Knoyer, the Oglebay marketing director. "We made some snow Saturday night, but then the humidity and the temperatures rose, and we couldn't continue to make snow. We hope to start again on Thursday."

On Tuesday, visitors can check out the Good Zoo, specialty shops and the Festival of Lights at night.
