Ohio Co. Schools administrators discuss school safety initiatives

By NEWS9

OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. —

Ohio County Schools administrators are continuing to discuss plans to increase school safety.

Superintendent Dianna Vargo said officials met on Tuesday and discussed several initiatives they will soon put in place in all 13 schools in the county.

Currently, no one can gain access to any building without being buzzed in at the front door, Vargo said.

She said the school system will be installing some new features on buses and wants to get more officers in schools.

"Some of the topics that we discussed include the purchase of new radios for our transportation department, and so that is actually in place and will hopefully happen by the first of the year," Vargo said.

She said there are school resource officers at all middle schools and at Wheeling Park High School. She said that it is a team effort to have officers in elementary schools as much as possible.
