Ohio County Schools Make High Honor

Ohio County's Public School system has 14 schools and every single one met President Bush's standards under the No Child Left Behind Act. School administrators are giving a reception to show their appreciation to those working with the students everyday. Under the federal guidelines, students from grades three to eight along with high school sophomores must meet the adequate yearly progress report.

"Students, administration and faculty, we all put together a product that came out to be AYP across the board and we couldn't be prouder," said Wheeling Park High School Dean of Students Ron DiLorenzo.

Out of West Virginia's 55 counties only 10 met those standards at every school in the district.

"10 made it and we are ecstatic at the fact that our hard work of our staff, both professional and services, have done an outstanding job with our students in this community," said Ohio County Schools Superintendent Lawrence Miller.

Schools that fail to meet the progress report for two straight years are required to take corrective action. The schools are required to meet the basic standards in math, reading and language arts.
