20 children dead along with six adults in one of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history. What happened in Connecticut has the nation reeling and it has left some of the Ohio Valley's top school administrators with a lot to think about. Like Edison Local's Superintendent Bill Beattie.

"You wonder, is there something that we could be doing as school districts to maybe help, you know, people that may have some issues, as far as mental instability?" said Beattie.

Despite the questions, Beattie says he feels comfortable students at Edison Local are safe.

"I know that it can happen anywhere in anybody's district but I really feel comfortable in us having a resource officer in our district especially at our high school," said Beattie. "We feel that is an important position to have for those sort of issues."

Beattie says Friday's shooting brings tragedies like those from Virginia Tech, Columbine and Chardon back into focus.

"It's awfully scary that so many shootings have taken place in such a short amount of time, and it seems like it's more that it's in open, public places that this seems to happen," said Beattie.

The shooting has been difficult for Beattie as an administrator but it has also touched him as a father.

"It's a difficult situation because in anything you do as a father and as a superintendent you just hope that when you leave in the morning that you're coming home, with any situations that occur or happen," said Beattie. "But you never know, that could happen, anytime, anywhere, in any place."
