BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio —

Icy road conditions were a factor in fatal crash early Thursday in Belmont County, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

According to a news release from the patrol’s St. Clairsville post, 38-year-old Kevin Schnegg, of Barnesville was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second man in another vehicle was injured. Robert Kysor, 57, of Moundsville, was transported by Beallsville emergency crews to Wheeling Medical Park, where he was treated and released.

A woman in the third vehicle, 21-year-old Alexis Kanzigg, of Beallsville, said she was injured but was not transported, troopers said.

The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. on State Route 148 near milepost 15. Troopers said the crash remains under investigation, but said Schnegg lost control on black ice and his 1997 Toyota Avalon went from the eastbound lane into the westbound lane.

Kysor was driving west in a 2005 Dodge Dakota when Schnegg’s car collided with his. Kanzigg was driving behind Kysor in a 2004 Chevy Cavalier, which struck Kysor’s vehicle after the first collision.

That portion of State Route 148 near Armstrong Mills is expected to remain closed throughout Thursday evening while investigators are at the scene, the OSHP told NEWS9 on Thursday morning.
