One person injured at PPG plant fire

By Alex Koscevic and Philip Stahl

MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va.—

One person has been injured after a fire broke out at the PPG Plant in southern Marshall County. Officials say they are not sure if the person hurt was an employee or a firefighter. They were transported to Wetzel County Hospital.

According the Marshall County EMA, fire broke out inside the plant at the Cal-Hypo facility around 7 p.m. Saturday.

Route 2 had to be closed for a short amount of time, but has been reopened.

EMA Director Tom Hart tells NEWS9 that the Moundsville, Washington Lands and New Martinsville fire departments assisted the PPG fire brigade inside the plant.

Right now there is no concern for any chemicals being released into the air.

Police are standing by in case they do need to shut Route 2 again.
