Organizers of restoration project give NEWS9 tour of Grand Theater

By NEWS9

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- Organizers of the Grand Theater Restoration Project gave NEWS9 a tour of the building after more than three years of work to remodel the structure.

Scott Dressel explained to NEWS9's Kelly Camarote what work still needs to be completed before the theater can open.

"We got a grant from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency to clean up. It cleans up things like lead and asbestos," said Dressel. "Eventually, when we get the money, we can bring (workers) in here and restore the ceiling and put all our fire suppression in. Eventually we'll do the walls and work our way down to the floor. The seats will be the last thing that go in."

Dressel said people frequently stop by the theater curious about the status of the remodeling work.

"We probably have on an average day 50 people stop and want to see what's happening," said Dressel. "All of them want to know when we're going to open, which is a ways off. People would like to relive the good heritage, the good days of downtown Steubenville. The grand is a great starting point for that."
