Troopers report OVI arrests up in Ohio

By NEWS9

Arrests of people operating vehicles while impaired are up in Ohio, officials with the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

The OSHP has been focusing on impaired driving enforcement as part of Trooper Shield, an effort that contributed to a 3 percent arrest increase.

In 2012, troopers made 24,520 arrests statewide. Nearly one in four – about 23 percent – included a speeding violation and 17 percent included a violation for driving without a valid driver's license.

Officials said there were 12,168 OVI-related crashes last year with 431 people killed.
