Partially collapsed building being demolished in Martins Ferry

By Kate Davison and  NEWS9

MARTINS FERRY, Ohio —

Tuesday was demolition day for an abandoned and partially collapsed building in Martins Ferry.

Part of the structure on the 400 block of Hanover Street fell onto a sidewalk in mid-August.  At that time, the Martins Ferry Fire Department was called to the structure after several reports of a partial collapse.

City officials said they think the roof went bad and there was heavy water damage.

The demolition started around 11:30 a.m. and attracted much attention. Neighbors pulled up lawn chairs and took a seat to get a good look at all of the action.

The building's owner, Dale Featheringham of Featheringham Realty out of Wintersville, coordinated getting the demolition process under way.
