WINTERSVILLE, Ohio —

A pedestrian who was struck by a car on Thursday night in Jefferson County has died from his injuries, officials said Friday morning.

Thomas Cadegan, 46, of Bergholz, was struck by a car in Wintersville around 9 p.m.

While the incident remains under investigation, police said it is believed to have been an accident. The driver of the car stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The crash happened on Cadiz Road near Quick Stop Foods, about a quarter of a mile from the Ohio State Highway Patrol post in Wintersville.

Investigators with the OSHP said Cadegan was attempting to cross the road when he was struck by a vehicle in the westbound lane.

Officials said that speed was not a factor and the driver is not charged. The driver told officials she was going 40 mph and the speed limit is 45 mph in that area.

"It's just that it's not a well-lit area, and people tend to cross at time(s) which probably isn't safe," said OSHP Trooper Josh O'Donnell.

Cadegan was taken to Trinity West initially, then airlifted by medical helicopter to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where he died.
