People And Businesses Across The Valley Ready To Ring In '08

Some people in the Valley said this New Year's Eve will be a quiet one, at home with family and friends.

"[I'll be] staying home and maybe watching some movies and just staying in," said Martins Ferry resident Lisa Waldrum.

But bar owners like Albert Macre are still banking on lots of people heading out for food, drinks and friends on Monday.

"It's just a lot more camaraderie during the holiday," Macre said. "And it's fun being on this side and just looking out and just watching everybody have a really nice time."

After the celebrations are over, Frank Colalella will be one of the busiest men in the Valley. He runs Weir Cove Taxi out of Weirton.

"We double up dispatch because it gets kind of crazy. A lot of people ride and call us. We add more cars, more drivers," Colalella said.

State troopers are also planning on a busy night, with extra patrols on the roadways.

"We are focusing on drunk driving. It's a night where people attend parties and while most people make arrangements and do the sensible thing there's always a few that don't," said Sgt. Don Britton of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Cab services like Weir Cove are taking reservations before you head out on Monday. Troopers said one of the best things to do is plan your ride home before you get to the party.
