WHEELING, W.Va. —

After a year of prosecuting dozens of people involved in a pill mill conspiracy in the Ohio Valley, on Monday the man known as the ringleader will be sentenced.

David Kidd is set to be sentenced at 3 p.m. Monday in U.S. federal court in Wheeling.

Last July, the U.S. attorney's office indicted 19 people involved in an illegal prescription drug ring that stretched from the Ohio Valley to Florida. Officials said Kidd was at the center of it all.

Kidd was arrested and released last year bond. Then he fled from authorities on Oct. 22, 2011. Police in Oklahoma took Kidd into custody after a high-speed chase, and he was extradited back to West Virginia.

He pleaded guilty in May 2012 in federal court to two charges: one count of conspiracy to deliver Schedule II controlled substances and one count of conspiracy to launder monetary instruments.

Both charges carry a maximum prison sentence of 20 years. Federal Judge Frederick Stamp will hand down the sentence.

All 19 other defendants connected with the pill mill pleaded guilty to their crimes.

U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld told NEWS9 that when Kidd pleaded guilty, it was a milestone in the case.
