BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio —

A pit bull that officials said attacked four people in Belmont County on Thursday is being quarantined at the animal shelter for 10 days.

After that time, assistant dog warden Lisa Williams said there is a possibility the dog could be euthanized.

The incident happened Thursday afternoon at Pine Lake Trailer Court. When she arrived at the scene, Williams said, "I just saw blood and everyone was getting bandaged up.

The dog is being kept away from other animals at the shelter.

"He's still upset from the trauma from yesterday. He's still growling and really upset and scared," Williams said.

Officials said they tried to subdue the dog with a stun gun at the scene before Williams arrived, but she said that doesn't always work and could agitate an animal even more.

"Their adrenaline seems to override it. It doesn't really seem to do anything. They don't react like humans," Williams said, adding that sheriff's officials had no other option than to stun the dog.

With regard to the breed, Williams said pit bulls can get a bad rap and it isn't the dogs' fault.

"They are a powerful animal, but labs and shepherds could do the same thing. It just seems the pit bulls are always the ones in the news. It's the humans' fault. People don't really understand the breed and the dog pays for it in the end," she said.

Sheriff Dave Lucas said the incident remains under investigation and prosecutors will decide if anyone will face charges.

The four victims were transported to various hospitals. Their conditions were not released as of Friday afternoon.
