Pizza delivery driver assaulted, robbed in Ohio Co.

By Josh Eachus and  NEWS9

OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. --

Police are searching for people who set up a pizza delivery driver to be assaulted and robbed.

The crime happened in Triadelphia around 11 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of a restaurant.

The female delivery driver had to drive herself to a nearby store to get help because her cellphone was damaged in the assault, police said. She was injured above her left eye but did not need medical treatment, officials said.

Ohio County Sheriff Pat Butler said investigators said more than one person is believed to be involved in the crime because a woman called in the pizza order and a man attacked the driver.

Butler said the driver pulled around the block to make a delivery, but no one was there so she left and went back to the store.

A while later, a call came in that someone never received their pizza. So, the driver went back to the parking lot and another car pulled in behind her. When the driver went to the passenger side door to get the pizza, she was attacked from behind.

"She got punched before he took the money out of her pocket," Butler said. The man then got back into a gray sedan driven by another person.

The attacker is described as a white male who was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt. Butler said both calls made to the pizza delivery service were made by a female but "whether this female was driving the car or not we don't know at the present time."

Butler said he is getting a lot of help from the Wheeling Police Department and the West Virginia State Police.

"We are checking surveillance cameras, not just in the parking lot, but all over Elm Grove and that area where businesses have outside cameras," Butler said.
