EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio —
An East Liverpool plant fire is under investigation after two workers were seriously burned Saturday afternoon.
First responders were called out to the Heritage-WTI plant on St. George Street about 1 p.m.
Officials with the company said a container of hazardous waste reacted in the area of the plant. A reaction caused by waste spilling from a large container into several smaller ones sparked the fire.
Two employees working in the area were injured and taken to East Liverpool City Hospital. They were later transferred to a hospital in Pittsburgh for further treatment. Their families were notified and are with them.
The cause of the incident is being investigated.
