Investigators are looking for more details about a man who was found dead of an apparent homicide Friday night, police said.

Officers found a 47-year-old Beatty Avenue resident dead at his home around 10:27 p.m. Investigators with the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation were at the scene Saturday checking out the area.

NEWS9's Briona Arradondo talked to neighbors on Beatty Avenue who said the incident is something they never thought would happen in their neighborhood.

"I was dumbfounded by it," said Mike Snodgrass, the next door neighbor to the man killed. "It was just not something you would expect … other neighbors in the area that might be, but they weren't the ones who you would think there was ever any problem."

Officers discovered the man when family members requested a well-being check on the man, police said. Cambridge police detectives, investigators with the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and the county coroner were called to the scene to investigate.

Neighbors said the man's death is surprising.

"I was kind of shocked over it because that's a little too close to home here. We're a little bit devastated over what happened," said Ralph Raptis, who lives on Beatty Avenue. "I might have said 'Hi' to the guy a couple of times in the past year. When I would say 'Hi,' he would say 'Hi' back."

According to police, the man's car was missing from his home at the time. They are looking into a motive and searching for suspects, police said.

Meanwhile, neighbors said they are trying to deal with his death.

"Honestly, I don't know if it's really set in what happened yet," said Snodgrass. "It's just really amazing.”
