TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, Ohio —
New Philadelphia police are investigating two home invasions in Tuscarawas County in which the victims were restrained and robbed.
Both crimes happened during the early-morning hours: one on Wednesday and one on Thursday.
Police are working day and night to solve these two crimes. Two crimes police Chief Jeff Urban believes are connected. While they work, the victims are still trying to pick up the pieces.
Thursday night was quiet at the Zimmerman home on Beech Lane but Thursday morning was a different story.
"I was in bed sleeping and I heard this awful racket, you know, and I raised up in bed and I thought maybe my granddaughter had come in," said Margaret Zimmerman.
But Zimmerman quickly realized the two people storming into her home weren't her relatives.
"These guys didn't say anything at first and they walked in the bedroom," said Zimmerman. "They had a gun pointed at my head."
The men restrained the 87-year-old.
"They had tape on my legs," Zimmerman said. "I was all duct-taped up and then they bound me to the table and there was duct tape all across my mouth."
With Zimmerman restrained, the men picked apart her home, but she wasn't their only target.
Just a short distance away along Fourth Street NE, police believe another family fell victim to the same two men.
Police say the men broke into the basement of the home and confronted a mother and son with a gun. After tearing through the home, they took the two to an ATM and attempted to withdraw cash before bringing them back and tying them up.
They left with the homeowner's car. It's a 2007 maroon Ford Taurus with Ohio license plate BGB-3139.
With both men on the loose, police are warning the community.
"It looks like there are two individuals, they got their face covered, and they have to have moved from the roadways into these homes," said Chief Urban. "So we're hoping that people will watch and let us know if they see anybody late at night. Hopefully now there is a little more awareness and we are going to find these guys."
If you see the car described above or you know anything about these two crimes, police are asking that you give them a call. The suspects are described as two white men about 5-foot-7. But that's all the information they have.
