CALCUTTA, Ohio —

Police in Columbiana County are looking for two armed bank robbers.

It happened around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at the PNC Bank branch on St. Clair Avenue in Calcutta.

Police arrived just five minutes after the call went out, but the armed men had already fled.

Police say two black males, each about 6 feet tall, burst into the bank wearing gray hoodies and bandanas, holding what appeared to be semi-automatic handguns.

"The first guy in the door takes two female employees and puts them on the floor at gunpoint while the second male hops the counter pointing his weapon at the other remaining employees," said Chief Donald Hyatt of the St. Clair Township Police Department.

After grabbing an undetermined amount of cash from cash drawers, the two men ran out the front door and headed east toward one of the local neighborhoods on foot were police believe they had a vehicle waiting.

Hyatt says he hasn't seen anything like this.

"We have had several bank robberies but I would have to say that this, given their more violent behavior, this was a first for us," Hyatt said. "We've had other bank robberies were a gun was brandished but not in this manner."

The chief says the men should be considered armed and dangerous.

Right now it is unclear when the bank will reopen.
