Police: Juveniles Admit To More Than 30 Felonies

A crime spree that lasted more than a year came to an end Monday, after the three juveniles were caught in connection with the latest crime- robbing a man's home. Knives were stolen from a home on Fisher’s Lane near McMechen on Monday. Jeff Coffield collects the weapons, and said they are worth hundreds of dollars. Juveniles broke down his door, and stole them in a daytime robbery, but Friday he got them back. "The one boy did have a gun,” said Coffield. “His comment was, if I was to walk in, he was going to shoot me." Police said they searched the homes of three juveniles, and found the knives. Trooper Mike Hogan, of the West Virginia State Police, said when they arrested the boys, a crowd actually gathered and applauded. He soon found out why. "These three juveniles advised us of several, probably 35 to 50 felonies in the city of McMechen," said Hogan. Grand larcenies, burglary, breaking and entering, including the McMechen fire house and swimming pool, and even arson. All of the crimes were committed in McMechen and the surrounding areas over the past year and a half. "I'm sure there's stuff they didn't even tell us yet," said Hogan. S. T. Mitchell works at the driving range where the arson happened, and is happy to hear the news. “That's a relief,” said Mitchell. “That's really a relief because it's sad, you can't have anything." He said the juveniles need to face stiff penalties for what they claim to have done. Meanwhile Coffield said the arrests are bitter sweet. "The sad part about it, I know one of the boys and the family. They’re good people." The three arrests could be just the beginning. Troopers said this case is still under investigation and that adults may also be involved in some of the crimes.
