Police: Man loses part of finger in family brawl during birthday dinner

By Briona Arradondo and  NEWS9

ROBINSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

A birthday dinner turned into a brawl for a Weirton family, with one man ending up losing part of his finger, police said.

According to a criminal complaint, Tony Sellitti Jr., of Weirton, was drunk and got into an argument with his brother-in-law at Ditka's steakhouse in Robinson Township, Pa., on Sept. 22. The argument got heated, and Sellitti tried to hit the man with a wine glass, police said.

Sellitti then started throwing punches and fought until they fell to the floor, according to police reports.

Sellitti's finger was severed at some point during the scuffle, and he went to UPMC Presbyterians for treatment, officials said.
NEWS9's Briona Arradondo talked to Ditka's General Manager Donald Gates Monday about the incident.

It was a private dining function, and there was an altercation between two people,” he said. “…Neitherperson had much to drink, and it was a brief disturbance. We broke it up and called police."

A family member who disputes the information in the police report talked to NEWS9 over the phone. The family member said her attorney advised her not to say much more than that to the media.

Sellitti is charged with simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct, and he is expected to appear in court sometime this week, officials said.
