Police seek men who stole estimated $10,000 worth of items from Weirton business

By Briona Arradondo and  NEWS9

WEIRTON, W.Va. —

Police are searching for two men who broke into Monro Muffler on Three Springs Drive in Weirton overnight Sunday into Monday.

The store manager said thousands of dollars worth of tools and other items were stolen.

Jay Calhoun, store manager, said he came to work around 6:50 a.m. Monday and noticed a window was kicked out.

"I went inside and saw glass everywhere. I went ahead and checked the register and it was on the floor emptied out," Calhoun said.

Police said the business was burglarized by two white men driving a blue or black Ford Ranger. Calhoun said he watched the surveillance video that caught the thieves on camera. He said the truck was parked behind the store while the thieves walked in and out of the back door, stashing a computer and other items in the truck.

Calhoun said the tools that were stolen have an estimated value of about $10,000. He said the specialty tools took years to collect and the crime is affecting his employees' livelihoods.

"They're all holding up well. It's just a shame because that's their bread and butter. That's how they feed their kids, and people just got to come in and take what they want," he said.

Customers had to be a little flexible before the shop opened as usual.

"They were very nice because we had to move a lot of the early morning appointments to this afternoon to get everything taken care of, but we're going to handle it, that's for sure," he said.

Police said they are watching the surveillance video for clues but they didn't have it available to NEWS9 to air Monday. Stay with NEWS9, WTOV9.com and WTOV9 Mobile for continuing coverage as details become available.
