Pool Brings Economic Opportunity To Marshall County

MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. —

Kids are jumping for joy in Marshall County as the aquatic center at Grand Vue Park is reopening.

Michelle Markey, of Moundsville, W.Va., said, "I think it's our own little Sand Castle in Moundsville. I think it's wonderful."

The brand new facility is worth $2 million. Pool Manager Craig White said officials raised much of that money through grant programs.

White said, "Three years ago, we decided to close the pool because of the amount of money it was taking to band aid it and open. It we lost our lifeguarding positions at that point."

Now those lifeguard positions have come back along with other immediate economic benefits.

White said, "Right now, we're in the process of building, and in that process, we do create new jobs."

The initial part of the plan is just phase one. It's designed to attract kids and their parents to an interactive water park. Phase two and three will bring a lazy river, an active river and slides.

White said, "More people, that means there's more people to help clean up and more housekeepers to help keep the cabins clean. So all over, it's increasing everything."
