Postal Officials Discuss Future Of Piney Fork Office

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio —

Residents of Piney Fork met with officials from the United States Postal Service on the proposal they brought to the table of closing the office in the future and transferring all operations to Smithfield.

"Ultimately it is a hard decision, probably one that a lot of people would not want to make, but if we want to keep the organization viable, we need to make the best possible decision," said spokesman Victor Dubina.

Monday night's meeting was not about making a decision either, it was about hearing the concerns from the residents.

Many opposed the suggestion to close it and offered suggestions to cut costs.

"I know we aren't open 42 hours a week now, but what if we cut that to 36 or even 30," said one resident.

Another woman said that if the office would close, it would cost her money.

"I would have to change all my bills, my bank accounts, my checks and a lot of other legal things," said another resident.

Officials say no decision will be made for some time, as they will take all opinions and suggestions into serious consideration.
