Power Restored; Residents Have Other Worries

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio —

The village of Irondale had a pre Forth of July fireworks show on Friday night when a 565-pound transformer exploded.

One neighbor who lives in front of the explosion described what she saw.

"Lighting had hit the tree and it fell on the cable and as soon as the tree fell on the cable, it busted the transformer," said Tonya Householder.

She, along with other neighbors, heard a big bang and a hot pink flash lighting up the darkness of the night, before it fell into the creek.

Tree branches and power lines draped near one home are signs of the damage that is left behind.

Power companies from the state of Ohio was called in to help restore power to the residents affected.

A-E-P tells NEWS9 power was restored late Sunday afternoon but residents have to worry about something else, food spoilage.

"The food is going bad with all the heat and starting to dethaw," said Householder.

But Clarissa Gooding is one of the lucky ones, she has a generator to keep all her food cold.

"I have a generator so this way we don't lose any food or nothing," said Gooding.
