By NEWS9

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio —

The St. Clairsville community honored its Red Devils football team Saturday for making it to the state finals.

People gathered at the Ohio Valley Mall to celebrate the team's historic accomplishment. Coaches said it was exciting for the players to finish as runners-up in Division IV. Families and friends shared their excitement for the team.

"(I think it's) wonderful. I usually have my buttons on, but I didn’t (have them on today). I have two grandsons -- one's a senior and one's a freshman and both (are) on the team," said Linda Earnest. "It's been wonderful. It's been a whirlwind."

The mayor also made a proclamation on behalf of City Council to honor the Red Devils for the day.
