Road Project In East Liverpool Is Underway

Project Will Cost $5,000,000

US Route 30 in East Liverpool has been in bad shape and in need of repair for some time.

"It's a four lane upgrade. It's basically a mill and fill paving project on the four lane portion of US-30 in East Liverpool," said Nick Susich, a construction engineer for the Ohio Department of Transportation District 11.

Right now, ODOT is in the process of repaving the road through a $5,000,000 project.

"We're removing three inches of asphalt, and we're putting back three and a half inches of asphalt," Susich said.

The work has traffic down to one lane through most of the five to six mile work zone. 30 guys are currently working the job to get the road open as soon as possible.

"Pretty much five days a week, the sixth day is optional if they think they can get something done that they really need to get done then they'll work on Saturday," Susich said.

Susich said for those who travel US Route 30 through East Liverpool. What they have seen so far is what they can expect until the project is completed some time by the end of September.

"This is pretty much what they can expect. The only thing we'll do is we'll continue to move and bounce them around from one lane to the next as we continue through the project. The speed limit has been reduced to 55 miles per hour," Susich said.

According to Susich, the final project should hold up for 10 to 12 years.
