Road Rage Suspected In Deadly Crash On I-70

OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. —

Police said road rage and bad judgment caused a car crash in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the number 10 on-ramp at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday. The crash left two people dead, two others injured and one man in jail.

Chief Deputy Drage Flick with the Ohio County Sheriff's Department said, "The vehicle came out on to the interstate, made contact with the tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer actually attempted to avoid the accident by driving through the median to the eastbound lanes the wrong way, but they still made contact right on the edge of the median."

Two hours later, David Hancher-Palmer, 22, of Rayland, turned himself in to police. West Virginia Sgt. Adams said the Ford Ranger was pushed into traffic by Palmer's car. He now faces five major charges including leaving the scene of an accident that involved a fatality and at least two counts of malicious assault.

Police said Palmer knew the four people in the Ford Ranger for several years. They left the same methadone clinic on Dallas Pike Road right before the accident. Police believe this accident was the final end to an ongoing fight between all of them.

The driver, Justin Wright, 20, of Toronto, and Brittney Lynn Kusic. 26, of Weirton were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Steven Carpenter, 20, of Toronto, is in critical condition. Justin's sister, Ashley Wright, 20, is severely injured.

Flick said, "Any time you have accidents on the interstate, they tend to be more severe and there's a higher possibility of severe injury, just because of the speed that the vehicles are traveling."
