JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio —

Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are looking for an armed robber who targeted a store around 7:20 p.m. Friday.

Officials said a man walked into the Special Way on State Route 213 and showed a gun to the female clerk and demanded she open the drawer and threatened to shoot.

The incident was caught on video, according to an investigating officer. Residents voiced their concerns about the recent violence.

"It's absolutely terrible, and society has gotten so disgusting, you know. There's no job here for them to have money, but why should they go out and steal money from everybody else to have what they want?" said Dale Lanham, who lived in the Steubenville area. "They have this neighborhood watch thing, like the churches going back and forth, and that's great. They need more of that going on."

Police believe the robber fled the scene heading south toward State Route 7 in a maroon or red van with Ohio license plates. The clerk recalled seeing the characters “C-L-2” on the plate, deputies said.

The robber was described as a white man wearing a camouflage jacket and dark pants around five feet eight inches tall and weighs about 200 lbs.
