Salt Arrives In Two Counties As Bad Weather Hits Again

Salt has arrived to road crews on both sides of the Ohio River, just in time to handle the latest blast of wintry weather.

Officials from Jefferson and Brooke counties said part of the problem with lack of salt recently was due to a delivery truck mix-up.

The Jefferson County engineer said the reason the county did not get its shipment from Mortons in Cleveland three weeks ago had to do with confusion with the delivery trucks.

He said Mortons mistakenly delivered four truckloads of salt to the Village of Wintersville instead of the county's garage. He said the county did eventually receive 25 tons of salt from Mortons yesterday, and Brooke County recently received a shipment from its supplier.

Brooke County is equipped with enough salt to get through the weekend and any wintry weather in the upcoming weeks, officials said, adding the salt came just in time.

Jefferson County is trying to get more salt, but the county should be good for now along with the cinders available to treat the roads, officials said Friday.
