WEIRTON, W.Va. —

Less-fortunate families in the Weirton area picked up boxes filled with all of the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal on Friday.

The food was distributed at the Salvation Army in the city, which relies on volunteers and donations to provide for more than 400 families

"If we didn't receive them by donation, we'd have to buy them. And that's a big chunk out of our budget which we really can't afford right now with helping people with utilities, and rent and things like that," said Maj. Ed Long of the Salvation Army.

About 700 turkeys were the last item to be delivered today, all of which were donated by Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack & Resort.

Along with the turkeys, crews filled boxes filled with canned and dry goods.
