Scouts race in Pinewood Derby

By NEWS9

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio —

Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts in the Ohio Valley raced in the Pinewood Derby at Fort Steuben Mall in Steubenville Saturday.

The derby encourages the scouts to take a block of wood and mold it into a racing car. The elimination round will leave the top six winners out of 78 cars, said Chairman Joe Kovaleski.

Scouts traveled from as far north as Empire, Ohio and New Manchester, W.Va., and as far south as Martins Ferry, Ohio and Bethany, W.Va. There were displays about the packs in Center Court at the mall.

Kovaleski said the event teaches boys woodworking and painting skills.
