Second Water Line Break Plagues Bellaire

City Crews Must Reach Leak Before They Can Fix It

BELLAIRE, OH —

For the second time in the past seven days, an entire village's water supply is off after a main line shatters underground.

Village water officials in Bellaire tell News 9 the same water line that broke on Hamilton Street last Thursday broke again just before five o-clock Thursay night.

At last check, village water workers still had not reached the break, which is ten feet below the street surface.

The line broke in exactly the same spot where it broke a week ago, and crews will have to get to the break before they can even think about fixing it.

Then they'll have to wait for the leak to drain away.

"We'll shut down the town down and we'll have to wait till the water bleeds from the higher elevation all the way to this level before we can do anything," said water department crewman Junior Jackson. "Because the water keeps coming and the pump won't take it away. "

While crews work on the break, Hamilton Street is closed between 26th and 32nd street.
