Semitrailer Overturns In Jefferson County, Driver Airlifted

A Jefferson County road was shut down after a semitrailer overturned Thursday, trapping the driver for some time.

The truck was transporting garbage around noon when it overturned on state Route 43 in Amsterdam and landed upside down in a creek.

The driver was rescued and airlifted to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

As of 1:45 p.m., officials with the Environmental Protection Agency were on their way to the scene out of concern that fuel may have leaked.

Route 43 in the area of the crash was closed at that time and traffic was being rerouted onto township Road 432. The road was expected to be reopened by 4:30 p.m.
