Senator Wants Older Children Riding In Booster Seats

A Democratic state lawmaker is looking to boost the age limit of children who must be strapped into a special seat while riding in a car.

Ohio Sen. Eric Kearney of Cincinnati has introduced a bill that would require booster seats in cars for children younger than 8 years old.

That's much tougher than the current state law, which says kids must ride in child-safety seats until they're at least 4 years old and 40 pounds.

The bill is designed to boost children up so their seat belts are more aligned with their bodies.

Thirty-five states already have safety seat requirements for children over 4 years old.
