YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio --
After five hours of testimony in Youngstown federal court on Wednesday, a judge ruled that four suspects accused in beard- and hair-cutting attacks must remain in jail until their trials.
The judge ruled Sam Mullet, Emanuel Schrock, Johnny Mullet and Daniel Mullet posed as a threat to frightened members of local Amish communities.
Some of the test imony came from a lead FBI agent on the case who said that during the raid of Sam Mullet’s property, agents found Sam Mulletin a bedroom with the wif e of one of the other suspects involved in “sexual counseling,” said the agent.
He said they found scissors and clippers they believe were used in the attacks, along with marijuana seeds and cocaine in a barn on the property where several people live.
The agent also said when they went to arrest Schrock, he barricaded himself in a room with a child. The child had to be pried out of his hands.
And according the agent, one man had also said he was forced to live in a chicken coop by Sam Mulletfor 12 days.
Attorney Andrew Hyde represented several of the seven co-defendants on charges out of Holmes County before this became a federal case. He was in Youngstown on Wednesday for those detention hearings and said it is no coincidence that the salacious details were divulged in court.
"This is kind of what's upsetting with how they are proceeding with this case. They are trying to win over public sentiment and win over the public by putting these outrageous facts out there, which I'm glad the trial process is going to force them to back that up," said Hyde.
The three other suspects in this case, Lester Mullet, Levi Miller and Eli Miller, w ill appear in court on Friday at 9 a.m.
