By NEWS9

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio —

A sex offender accused of failing to register in Oklahoma was arrested in Belmont County Saturday.

A press release from the U.S Marshals Service said the Wheeling office received a collateral lead request from USMS in Oklahoma on Thursday to locate and arrest James Stephens. Stephens was accused of failing to register as a sex offender on Sept. 27 in Oklahoma County, Okla.

Authorities said the Mountain State Fugitive Task Force conducted surveillance on several hotels in the area to locate Stephens Friday. After more surveillance, deputies with the USMS located Stephens in a car in the Ohio Valley Mall parking lot Saturday around 12:45 a.m.

Stephens was taken to the Belmont County Jail to await extradition to Oklahoma.
