Shadyside Schools Reinstates Jobs

Shadyside Schools have revoked a decision to cut two full-time jobs and one part-time position.

School Superintendent Terry Brinker said cutting the jobs would have put a void in the educational programs for the students.

Brinker said classes would have been restructured and programs lost -- something school administrators just simply didn't want to do.

Now that those positions are being restored, a different problem has resurfaced: Another deficit.

The 2009 budget is now $365,000 in the red, but Brinker said the district will try to come up with other ways to deal with the deficit which don't ultimately affect education.

Brinker said, "Our deficit is still the issue, but we will continue to work and focus on education and take care of the deficit in some different ways, I hope."

He said the district said they will continue to pursue cost reduction measures, especially in the insurance program, which he says is a significant financial burden.
