Shelly Moore Capito Visits Wheeling

Republican Congresswoman, Shelly Moore Capito spoke out at a Republican Ladies luncheon about allegations that she is involved in illegal lobbying activities.

"I am just totally outraged by the way my name has been dragged through the mud in this thing," said Capito.

Capito claims she's innocent and has no connection to the Jack Abramoff scandal.

"The people that are on trial for breaking the law, for lying, cheating and stealing basically," said Capito, "Their using my name as a cover to keep their activities secret."

When asked about former Ney staffer, Neil Volz's testimony claiming Capito is guilty of helping him obtain advice and insider information, she denied any connection.

"The story is that my chief of staff made a phone call inquiring about a piece of property. I had no knowledge of the phone call. I had no knowledge of the people involved," said Capito.

Even though allegations of illegal activity surfaced about members of the Republican party, Capito thinks the party will remain strong.

"I feel good about where we are as a party," said Capito, "We are considered and I think rightly so, the party that is concerned with personal responsibility, with family issues and with a love of community."
