Sheriff to offer safety awareness course after spike of interest

By Philip Stahl

WETZEL COUNTY, W.Va. –

The Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office is starting a new safety program this month.

Sheriff James Hoskins and Chief Deputy Rob Haught are starting the safety awareness program in about two weeks.

They said after a lot of talk with residents, it needs to be held, especially after a lockdown just weeks ago at a local school because of a theft nearby in the neighborhood.“We had what amounted to be a home invasion- type incident in New Martinsville that really spiked an interest in home safety,” said Chief Deputy Rob Haught.

“We will be focusing on home safety issues, how to make your place more secure for you and your family, and much more,” said Sheriff James Hoskins.

The first course will be held in New Martinsville on Jan.  17 at the Florentine Arts Center from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

After that, Hoskins and Haught will travel to other locations in the county to offer the course.
