Sheriff: Two Suspects Wanted In Connection With Homicide

A body was found hidden in a container in Jefferson County and investigators are ruling it a homicide. NEWS9 has just confirmed that a SWAT team surrounded a home in Columbus where two people wanted in connection with the crime were living.

It's usually a quiet country road out in Mount Pleasant, but Saturday the area behind the farm house on Seminary Road turned into a crime scene when a man's body was found hidden.

"The body has been there for approximately two weeks. I can confirm that it is a male subject, approximately 50 years old. And I can confirm there are a couple of suspects," said Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla.

Seeing the area sealed off, full of investigators and hearing word of what was going on behind the crime scene tape had neighbors in the area shocked that something like this could happen in their own back yard .

"Everyone knows every neighbor, every car that goes by. You don't have to worry about your children or anything, it's a really friendly town," said neighbor Cathy Sutton.

Investigators won't release exactly where the body was found, but say it was found in a sealed container. Although the body was dumped in Jefferson County, they believe the homicide took place in Belmont County.

"We have witnesses to interview and the body will be taken for an autopsy, so that's what we have scheduled so far," said Belmont County Sheriff Fred Thompson.

"There will be charges filed against two individuals. I'm not saying right now they'll be murder, but there will be charges filed against two individuals. That's how certain we are of having suspects in this case," said Abdalla.

In the meantime, neighbors of the quiet, tight-knit community said they are anxiously awaiting answers.
