Steubenville police are investigating a case of shots fired in the La Belle section of the city around 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Police centered their investigation around the 1400 block of Pennsylvania Ave., where they found several shell casings. No one was injured and nothing was damaged.

According to police reports, officers spoke with several females who said they saw people firing guns on a porch.  Police said whoever is responsible fled on foot.

The latest case of shots fired comes after city officials announced a crackdown on crime during a press conference last week.  Residents said they're noticing a stronger police presence.

"Over the last week and a half, I've seen a stronger presence for sure," said Tout Malone, a Steubenville resident. "I saw some that looked like maybe state police."

"I have seen them, you know, riding around. I think it's great for the residents to know that the Steubenville police are moving even more [forward] as far as dealing with crime and the shootings," said local pastor Everett Mitchell.

Residents said they're grateful for the increased enforcement, but know they play an important role as well.

"It's great to know we're all coming together at all walks to put a stop to this. We're not going to stand for this. We need peace and love in our area," said Mitchell.

"I know they've got rallies and walks going on and just trying to show a presence in the neighborhood, which is good. It's let the people know they care," said Malone.
