Winter Storm in Cadiz, Ohio
While snowfall amounts varied greatly across the Ohio Valley on Thursday-- anywhere between a coating to 6 inches -- Severe Weather Team 9 said the heaviest and steadiest snow will fall late Thursday into Friday.

A winter weather advisory is in effect through 7 p.m. Friday, and the next batch of snowfall is expected to bring 3-9 inches of accumulation through Saturday. Considerable blowing and drifting of snow is also expected to occur as winds gust more than 30 mph.

NEWS9 meteorologist Kristin Walls said snowbands are to blame for such a wide variety of snow amounts Thursday morning.

Since snowbands are not a widespread snow event, they can dump much snow in a short amount of time over a small area. Wednesday night into Thursday, a snowband moved north to south through Carroll, Harrison, Belmont, Ohio and Tyler counties.

While those five counties had the highest snow amounts in the Ohio Valley, areas outside of the snowband only received a dusting to an inch of snow.

For example, in Scio, Harrison County, 8 inches of snow fell by Thursday morning, whereas in Steubenville, Jefferson County, just about an inch accumulated.

But, Walls said the next round of snow won't be isolated to just a few places in the Ohio Valley.
