Special Assignment: Dangerous Drive Times

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio —

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, St. Clairsville post, released a report to NEWS9 detailing the most dangerous drive times. It details the specific day, hour and the place where the most crashes happen.

Despite what many thought across the Ohio Valley, the weekends are not currently the most dangerous times on the roadway.

Specifically in Belmont County, the most dangerous time is on a Wednesday between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m on State Route 7.

Lt. Roger Norris with the OSHP said the latest findings for 2009 aren’t surprising.

“You know, the afternoon you’ve got folks getting off work, traffic's heavy, school and so forth,” said Norris.

Route 7 hasn’t always been the most dangerous roadway.

In 2008, out of 15 fatal accidents for OSHP St. Clairsville, the most happened Friday’s and Sundays on I-70.

Lt. Norris said troopers use the crash statistics to better position patrols.

“Citizens should always be cognizant of when peak crash times are. Obvious you want to use more caution. You always want to wear your safety belt, because you don’t have to be the one who causes a crash to be involved in one,” said Norris.
