St. Clairsville-Richland school officials implementing new safety training program

By NEWS9

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio —

Officials with St. Clairsville-Richland City School District met Friday to discuss implementing a new safety training program in the schools.

The program, called “ALICE,” stands for “alert, lockdown, inform, counter and evacuate.”

Officials said it focuses on ways to safely and effectively respond to critical incidents, including an active shooter.

Superintendent Walt Skaggs said they have a plan in place, but administrators want to make sure it’s the best.

"We want to do everything we can to prepare for any tragedy or any incident that may occur. We are trying to be proactive and tap into all the resources out there,” Skaggs said.

Officials said training would last three days and the program’s costs are minimal.

Last week, officials with Bridgeport schools were looking into the same program.
